Who the Sessions Are For
Tuition is exclusively for current Year 5 children and takes place in small groups of up to 8, ensuring personalised attention and individual support. Group learning gives children the chance to work both collaboratively and independently, benefiting from friendly competition and peer support. Many form friendships that last into high school.
I focus on building knowledge, developing problem-solving skills, and boosting confidence — preparing children not only for the entrance exam, but also for success in Year 6 and beyond.
I’m proud of my students’ achievements, and it’s always rewarding to see them unlock their potential and develop a genuine love of learning.
Fees and Cancellations
£28 per week, payable monthly in advance by direct debit. All resources are included in the tuition fee, so there’s no need to buy extra books or software unless you wish to.
If your child cannot attend an in-person session (due to holidays, illness, or another commitment), I will try to fit them into an alternative session if space allows. Fees are not refunded for missed sessions, but I will always ensure your child has access to any relevant materials and homework. For online weeks, it’s fine to join an alternative session as there are no space limits.
You will not be charged for sessions I cancel or for weeks when tuition is not running (e.g. Christmas, Easter, or half-term holidays). There is also no charge for any weeks I am on holiday, and I always provide suitable assignments for students to complete while I am away.
Lesson Structure
We meet weekly for an hour.
Sessions run all year apart from half-terms, Christmas, and Easter. From July and throughout the summer holidays, we meet in person for mock test practice, focusing on exam techniques, pace, and confidence in readiness for the test in September of year 6. Optional subject booster sessions are also available online in the summer holidays.
Homework: Set weekly (up to 1 hour), with optional extra work available for students who would like to do more.
Learning Tools and Materials
I use a mix of online quizzes, games, and carefully selected resources to keep students motivated and focused. Over the year, we cover all areas of the GL Assessment–style 11+ test — Verbal Reasoning, English, and Maths — using materials from GL Assessment, Bond, CGP, and resources I’ve created myself. This variety ensures children are confident tackling questions in any format, while also building skills that prove invaluable for Year 6 and SATs.
Technical information for online learning:
For online tuition, I recommend a laptop/PC with a headset and microphone for clear communication and minimal background noise. A reliable internet connection is essential—ideally a wired connection, or sit close to the router. If wired isn’t possible, ask others in the household to avoid gaming, streaming, or large downloads during the session.
Tablets and phones are not recommended due to small screens.
